Cut Files for Cards

DO YOU USE CUT FILES ON CARDS ?!

Oftentimes, Cut Files are thought to only be used for scrapbook layouts, sweatshirts and t-shirts or tote bags etc. BUT they are SO cute on smaller projects too !

I was thrilled when the team at Creative Scrapbooker Magazine asked me to share these with their VIP Facebook Group! If you are not a Member yet … JOIN HERE NOW !!

This is an amazing space online for crafters to spend time with other creatives…learning, laughing and inspiring each other !

I have never been, what most would consider to be, a traditional card maker.  I’ve always made cards, but usually with the leftover bits and pieces from my paper crafting projects like layouts etc.

This isn’t to say that I never stamp, because I do! But I much prefer to add in all the things I use in my larger crafts…. insert CUT FILES !!!

This Nutcracker Bundle is SO versatile with all the elements that we’ve included! AND the inside cut from the word ‘Christmas’ pops out as a complete word, making it easy to add onto another card like I’ve done here with the pre-printed cut apart ‘holly jolly’.

customizing cut files

I absolutely LOVE the diversity that comes with being able to manipulate Cut Files inside the design space of an electronic cutting machine !

It is SUPER easy to reduce the size of the elements down to work on your cards. We have also created a few background layering files, like the Irregular Weave Bundle, that come to you in multiple sizes, making it even easier to use on many projects !!

I used the smallest file, cut from white cardstock, to layer underneath my title Cut File and love the dimension it adds so easily to this card !!

This set of gifts is one of my fave pieces in the Nutcracker Cut File Bundle as it is (3) presents welded together and can be used for ANY gift giving occasion !!

You could use it on Birthday cards, Baby cards, Wedding cards and so much more … options are endless when you can reduce OR increase the size !!

Tag sets

We’ve created several other Tag Cut File sets since we began offering Digital products, but this Christmas Circle Tag Set was my fave release this December !!

We included a plain tag, as well as the star, heart and joy … so that you can use these for all occasions throughout the year as well! Just wait until you see the UH-DORABLE wooden tags and tree ornaments I created using this Cut File too !!

For this card, I combined (2) Cut Files (an oldie but a goodie) the Circle Background Cut File is one my my VERY favourites and was the perfect base to these circle tags.

I reduced the size of the background file to approx. 6 x 6″ and then carefully snipped three circles off to make it fit well onto my 5 x 6 1/2″ card base …

I then backed my circle tags using various patterned papers from the Mix & A Mingle collection and raised then using 3D Foam. I cut the Circle Background a little larger than the tags so that the irregular edges could be seen around the outside edges of the tags … cute right ??!!

use all the bits

Never to be the one to waste paper crafting supplies (LOL), I backed the remaining strip of (3) circles using some candy cane patterned paper. Since the bottom edges of the circles were a little messy from the original cutting, I created a strip of border punched patterned paper to raise just overlapping the bottom edge so that it cleaned it all up !!

I then backed (3) sets of candy canes from the Nutcracker Cut File Bundle and raised them using 3D Foam. You would never know that this was a leftover piece now would you !!!!

REMEMBER, every once in a while take a minute to look at your supplies a little differently !!

You never know what might come from stepping outside your creative comfort zone and it just might be magical !!

If you create using our Cut Files … be sure to TAG US !! We LOVE to see what you create …
