‘Groovy Sisters’ by Nancy Bianchini
Hi ! I’m back on the blog to share this groovy layout that I made as a gift !!
This 12×12 scrapbook page took quite some time to put together but it was worth it because some photos just deserve some extra time spent on making the page they will be featured on just perfect!
For the most part, I see Cut Files as a quick and easy way to add a title or san element of interest to pages, but I also love to figure out new, unexpected ways to use them through re-sizing, layering, trimming or even adding colour.
I searched for the grooviest paper I could find in my paper collection from the Paige Evans Wonder Collection, and it was exactly the crazy colour this page needed!
Living in a house with teenage boys, I find I don’t often get a chance to use the more colourful collections. So using the super colourful mandala page as the background stretched my skills a bit.
Usually, I would use such a busy pattern in much smaller doses, but for this page it had to be the background – Groovy Baby!
To visually break it up a bit, I added a slightly reduced size of the Chevron Cut File – I ran it at 11×11 instead of 12×12 to allow a border. Also, I cut it twice and layered it for dimension.
I loaded up the Groovy Cut File Bundle in my Cricut program and ungrouped the images so I could delete all but the flower and the GROOVY title from the canvas.
I will certainly come back to use some of the other cute images like the Van, but for this I only wanted the flower and GROOVY title.
I duplicated and resized the groovy flower to be about 1” bigger and 1” smaller than the original. Then, I cut out all the flowers 5 times from white card stock.
I cut the image again from white card stock, but this time I used the contour feature to eliminate all the intricate parts of the cut file and just leave a background so that it would have a backing to assemble the flowers on.
Finally, I cut the file one more time from the patterned paper and used both the back and the front of the inside pieces to paper piece in the petals and centres of the groovy flowers.
I designed this page to give to my husbands’ sister who is the one holding dog in the middle and right photographs. I plan to give her a journaling card that she can write on herself. I’m sure these pictures have some great memories for her !!
